LUBFREE®

Lubricant free surgical instruments

Featuring High Precision Smooth and Robust Surfaces

The LUBFREE® high precision stainless steel surfaces do not need any lubrication – and yet have friction coefficients below 0.05 in hinges, pivots, locks and threads, lasting for a minimum 16,000 cycles.

Consisting of a diamond like hard coated side and a high precision passivated stainless-steel side, the self-lapping system eliminates galling, friction induced wear and corrosion in the long run. There is no reaction with plastic implants as no lubricants are on site for the first time.

1

+ PATIENT SAFETY

Plastic instruments and implants are safe from attack through lubricants – because there are none!

2

+ DESIGN FREEDOM

Your design no longer needs to consider accessibility for lubricant application.

3

+ CLEAN AND DRY APPEARANCE

No greasy gloves or packaging with LUBFREE®.

4

+ 90% COMPATIBLE

The majority of current instruments can be converted to LUBFREE®.

5

+ EASIER & FASTER REPROCESSING

It eliminates one of the most critical steps in instrument reprocessing.

6

+ NO GALLING COMPLAINTS

Galling is fully eliminated with LUBFREE®.

LESS FRICTION & WEAR THAN CONVENTIONAL SURFACES

Life-cycle tests over 16.000 cycles showed a LUBFREE® friction coefficient stable at 0.04 after the self-lapping phase. LUBFREE® reduces stainless steel wear to a minimum which enhances product precision over the life-span.

High Precision, Smooth and Robust Surfaces

Self-lapped 0.05μm surface roughness at both friction sides.

Comprehensive biocompatibility data

The diamond-like-carbon coating (a-C:H), is a well-known implant and surgical instruments coating and for almost 20 years in use. In addition, ISO 10993-1 part 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 and 11 tests were successfully conducted by accredited laboratories.

HOW WE MAKE YOUR INSTRUMENTS LUBFREE®

  • 1

    Your Product

    + Device master record amendments

    + Biocompatibility verified

    + Process validation completed

  • 2

    Design Analysis

Wether it is a redesign or a new product, we look at your CAD data or prototypes to evaluate the possibility to apply LUBFREE®.

  • 3

    Design Changes

In most cases just minor changes are necessary. The base material and dimensions remain the same.

  • 4

    Verification & Validation

Every batch will be verified. Optionally, we contract a performance qualification with your instrument and simulate lifetime.

    Your Lubfree® Instrument

“Before the iPhone we all could not imagine a smart phone without a keyboard.
Today it is standard.

Lubricant-free instruments will also become the standard because they offer
outstanding advantages: for example, they do not react at all with plastic.
And this is only one of the benefits.
Surgeons will not want to operate with anything else.”
